Step 1: Configure the Incoming Chat Trigger
Set up the manual chat entry point that starts the research agent.
- Add the Incoming Chat Trigger node as the workflow trigger.
- Keep the default settings in Incoming Chat Trigger since no parameters are required.
- Connect Incoming Chat Trigger to Realtime Research Agent as shown in the execution flow.
Step 2: Connect AI Language Models
Configure the language models used by the agent and ensure credentials are in place.
- Open Gemini Chat Engine and set Model Name to
models/gemini-2.0-flash. - Credential Required: Connect your googlePalmApi credentials in Gemini Chat Engine.
- Open OpenAI Conversation Model and set Model to
gpt-4. - Credential Required: Connect your openAiApi credentials in OpenAI Conversation Model.
⚠️ Common Pitfall: OpenAI Conversation Model is not connected to Realtime Research Agent in the current workflow. If you intend to use it, connect it as an ai_languageModel input to Realtime Research Agent or remove the node to avoid confusion.

Assemble the agent with memory and web search tooling for real-time research.
- Open Realtime Research Agent and keep the default Options unless you have custom agent settings.
- Connect Gemini Chat Engine to Realtime Research Agent as the ai_languageModel.
- Connect Sliding Window Memory to Realtime Research Agent as the ai_memory input.
- Connect SerpAPI Lookup Tool to Realtime Research Agent as the ai_tool input.
- Credential Required: Connect your serpApi credentials for SerpAPI Lookup Tool (the tool attached to Realtime Research Agent).
Tip: Sliding Window Memory stores recent conversation context for the agent. If the agent feels “stateless,” ensure this memory node is connected correctly.
Step 4: Configure Output/Action Nodes
This workflow returns responses directly in the chat interface, so no external output nodes are required.
- Confirm that Realtime Research Agent is the final node in the main flow from Incoming Chat Trigger.
- Review Flowpast Branding (sticky note) for documentation purposes; it does not affect execution.
Step 5: Test and Activate Your Workflow
Run a manual test to confirm the agent can respond and use search results.
- Click Test Workflow and use Incoming Chat Trigger to send a research question (for example, “Find the latest news about X”).
- Verify that Realtime Research Agent returns a response and that searches are performed via SerpAPI Lookup Tool.
- If the response is empty or errors occur, re-check credential setup in Gemini Chat Engine and SerpAPI Lookup Tool.
