A stable network is the foundation for everything else

When the network goes down, the business stops. Video calls drop in the middle of client presentations, files take forever to upload, Wi-Fi cuts out exactly when you need it most. Most network problems aren’t caused by your broadband — it’s the internal infrastructure that’s inadequate or misconfigured. Cheap consumer hardware, poorly placed access points, repeaters that create more problems than they solve, or a guest Wi-Fi that shares a network with your business systems.

Flowpast builds proper business networks instead: thoughtful design, professional equipment, and correct configuration from the start. We specialise in Ubiquiti UniFi because it delivers the best price-to-performance ratio for SMBs — enterprise-grade quality at a fraction of the cost. For firewalls we work primarily with WatchGuard and Fortinet, and for wireless we build controlled, segmented networks where guest traffic, IoT devices, and business data are kept separate. The result is a network that just works — year after year.

Our networking services in detail

Six core areas where we help businesses build and manage stable networks.

📐

Network design & installation

From blueprint to live network. We plan infrastructure, run cabling, install switches and access points, and configure the entire stack following best practice for business environments.

📡

Business Wi-Fi

Ubiquiti UniFi-based wireless networks with full coverage, high capacity, and seamless roaming between access points. Optimised for video calls, cloud services, and remote working — not just basic browsing.

🛡️

Firewalls & perimeter security

WatchGuard, Fortinet, or UniFi depending on your requirements. Rule-based traffic management, intrusion detection, content filtering, and secure policies that keep guest and IoT traffic separate from your business.

🔐

VPN & secure remote access

VPN solutions that give employees secure access to the company network wherever they are. From simple client VPN to advanced site-to-site connections between offices and cloud environments.

🔀

Segmentation & VLANs

Guest network separated from business data, IoT devices in their own segment, sensitive systems isolated from the rest. Correct segmentation is one of the most important security measures in any modern business network.

👁️

Monitoring & operations

Proactive monitoring of your entire network stack around the clock. Alerts on anomalies, automated patching of network equipment, and monthly reports on uptime and performance.

How we build your network

Four steps from first site visit to a finished network — without business disruption.

1

Site visit & analysis

We visit your premises, analyse existing infrastructure, measure Wi-Fi coverage, and identify your actual requirements. Free with contract within the Greater London area.

2

Quote & design

You receive a detailed quote with network diagram, equipment list, and timeline. Clear pricing, no hidden costs — and a concrete technical picture of what you’re buying.

3

Installation

Cabling, mounting of access points and switches, firewall and VLAN configuration. We typically work outside office hours to minimise disruption to your business.

4

Operations & support

After installation, you get ongoing monitoring, proactive patching, and fast support when issues arise. All under a clear SLA with monthly uptime reports.

Common problems we solve

The most frequent networking issues businesses contact us about.

📉

Poor Wi-Fi

Weak signal, dead zones, unstable connections. Usually caused by poorly placed access points, consumer-grade hardware, or interference that requires professional measurement to fix.

🐌

Slow connectivity

Video calls that buffer, file transfers that crawl. Almost always a local problem — not the broadband — that can be solved with proper switches, QoS, and network design.

🚫

Security gaps

Guest networks sharing the same network as business systems, IoT devices without isolation, firewalls running factory defaults. We segment correctly and close security holes.

🏢

New offices & relocations

Moving or opening a new office? We design and install complete networks from scratch — cabling, Wi-Fi, firewall, and cloud service integration.

🔄

Switching network providers

We take over responsibility from your current provider without disruption. We inventory existing equipment, take over configuration, and set up new monitoring in parallel.

📹

CCTV & camera systems

Installation of UniFi Protect cameras for office security. Integrated into the same control panel as the rest of your network, with secure storage and access control.

Frequently asked questions about business networking

How much does a network installation cost?
The cost depends entirely on office size, number of employees, and equipment choice. A straightforward business network for an office with 10–15 employees typically starts around £3,000–6,000 including cabling, 2–3 access points, a switch, and a basic firewall. Larger offices with 30+ employees, more access points, advanced firewalls, and fibre installation can range from £10,000–25,000. For larger environments with multiple floors or buildings, we provide individual project quotes. We always do a site visit first so we can give you a concrete quote without guesswork.

Why is Ubiquiti UniFi so popular for SMBs?
UniFi has transformed business networking for small and mid-sized companies by offering enterprise-class hardware at a fraction of the price compared to traditional alternatives. You get professional access points, switches, and firewalls with centralised management through a single controller — no separate licences, no hidden subscriptions. Performance is on par with Cisco and HPE Aruba, but at roughly a third of the cost. For the vast majority of SMBs, it’s the obvious choice.

How long does a network installation take?
A basic installation for an office with 10–15 employees typically takes 1–2 working days including cabling, equipment mounting, and configuration. Larger offices with more extensive cabling or new builds can require 3–5 days. We often work outside office hours — evenings and weekends — to minimise disruption. The entire process from first visit to completed installation usually takes 2–4 weeks depending on equipment lead times.

Our Wi-Fi is terrible — what’s the problem?
The most common causes of poor Wi-Fi are wrong number or incorrectly placed access points, consumer hardware that can’t handle many connected devices, mesh systems or repeaters that create signal interference, and channel overlap with neighbouring businesses. We always start with an on-site survey where we analyse coverage, signal strength, and interference. Often it’s enough to replace 2–3 access points, reposition them, and configure channels correctly. Consumer Wi-Fi boosters are rarely the right solution for businesses — the only thing that delivers a stable business network is a properly designed system with wired backhaul.

Do we need a separate firewall?
Yes, if you want reasonable security. The router from your broadband provider isn’t enough — it’s designed for home use and lacks advanced traffic filtering, intrusion detection, and the ability to log and inspect traffic. A business firewall from WatchGuard, Fortinet, or UniFi gives you control over what passes in and out of your network, the ability to block known threats and phishing sites, and integration with EDR and other security tools. For businesses subject to NIS2 or GDPR, a proper firewall isn’t optional — it’s a baseline requirement.

Do you handle both wireless and wired networking?
Yes — we deliver complete network solutions including LAN cabling (Cat6/Cat6A), patch panel and cabinet installation, switches, access points, and firewalls. For new offices or major refurbishments, we also run fibre between buildings or floors. After installation, we test all cables with Fluke instruments and document the entire installation so future changes are straightforward.

Can you help with remote access and VPN?
Yes — secure remote access is one of our most common services. We set up VPN solutions that let your employees access internal company resources securely from anywhere — home, travelling, or at a client site. We work with client VPN (WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPsec) for individual users and site-to-site VPN for connecting multiple offices or cloud environments. For businesses on Microsoft 365, we often recommend combining Conditional Access with Entra ID for user-level access management rather than pure network-level VPN.

Do you offer ongoing network monitoring and management?
Yes — we offer ongoing management contracts with proactive 24/7 monitoring. This includes automatic alerting on anomalies, patching of network equipment, configuration backups, monthly reports on uptime and performance, and fast support when issues arise. The contract is tailored to your size and needs — from basic monitoring with business-hours response to fully managed with 24/7 on-call for mission-critical environments. Many clients combine network management with managed IT in a single contract for better overall control.
